a time and a place……

Coming from a time and a place where you worked for everything….worked harder and harder. Nothing was given to you and you definitely take nothing for granted.  It was in the country in New England.

It was in the ‘sticks’….large rolling fields, farms, tractors, general stores, fresh berries and corn on the cobb….and creaky old houses with bad plumbing.

Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s….Just about your whole family lived in the town you grew up in……grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins……friends that were like family……..

Boys could only have a car if they saved up and bought a real fixer and worked on it for a year or two….then they could actually drive it.

Jumping off the docks and fishing boats into the river….and trekking through the dunes of Horseneck Beach.

School books wrapped in cut up brown paper bags from the grocery store…..drinking from garden hoses.

When my sister and I were somewhere in the neighborhood playing with friends, our parents didn’t know which friends or which house….there were no cell phones.  Scream….scream loud….they will hear us.

I moved from there when I was 29….one of the last people I saw was my 1st grade teacher…..Mrs. Wood….she was in her eighties when I left.  She was one of the sweetest people on the planet.

It was pretty magical, especially now, having these moments of quiet reflection.

I know what you are thinking……is she talking about her life or that of another?  Her picture……she can’t be…….Yes, friends….the clarity of mind and the love of history…your history.  Keeping life simple…..appreciation of memories….to enjoy one another and learn about them, also…even now, new friends…..figuring out which souls you could have a connection with….friends til the end……and the importance of it.  Everybody has a story………
